NEWS of WENDELL Mrs. Horace Perry is a patient at Wake Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Inez Fortune was a guest of Mrs. L. V. Grady in Wilson the past week. Mrs. Elsie Bruch, Mrs. Robert Williford, Mrs. Durema Biggs and Brack Straugh were weekend vis itors at Wrightsville Beach. Douglas Mullen of U. N. C., Cha pel Hill, was a weekend guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mullen. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gray and son were guests Saturday of her grandmother, Mrs. Joe Ferrell. Mrs. Beadie Rhodes of Raleigh visited friends in Wendeli last weekend. Mrs. Anna McGranahan remains ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Plato Monk. Jimmy Henderson left Monday night for New York City. He left there by plane for Egypt Wednesday night. Dr. J. R. Hester is at home and i improving after an appendectomy at Rex Hospital. Bill C. Roberts was presented a Golf Trophy last Friday night at the Lakeside Dance in Zebulon. Mr. Roberts made the only hole in one at Lakeside on March 31—157 yards since Golf Course has been opened. Mrs. J. R. Williamson returned home last week from a three weeks’ visit in Norfolk, Va., with her daughter, Mrs. James Ewing. Dr. L. J. Braudwell and David Broadwell spent Sunday morning in Ramseur with his sister, Mrs. Esther Cox. The Rev. Allen Wentz, Mrs. Wallace White, Mrs. B. C. Mr. Williamson was a farmer policeman in Wendell. Dr. and Mrs. Edgar Grady of Atlanta and Mrs. L. V. Grady of Wilson were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scarborough last Wednesday evening. Miss Sandra Scarborough spent the spring holidays in Nassau. She was one of 20 Peace College stu dents who made the trip, chape roned by Mrs. Ben Kilgore of Ra leigh. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Underhill visited Mr. Underhill’s aunt, Mrs. Woodford Lee in Angier Sunday. Mrs. T.ee has been a Datient at Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill. Mrs. Roscoe Nowell’s mother, Mrs. Ruth Blankenship of Rocky Mount, and brother, Roy Blackley of Petersburg, Va., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Nowell. Miss Ethel Berghers of Raleigh and Miss Vivian Nowell had Sun day lunch with them. The Nowells celebrated the 18th birthday of their son, George. Roy Blackley was guest soloist at the morning service at Wendell Baptist Church. Mrs. Herb Mantych is working at Wendell Drug Co. during the absence of Mrs. Bobby Underhill. • Mrs. Willis Strickland, Mrs. Woodrow Ferrell, Mrs. Morris Todd, all of Raleigh and Mrs. Louis Liles, Mrs. Luther Ledford and Mrs. Joe Ferrell entertained in the home of Mrs. Ferrell Sat urday morning from 10-11:30 hon oring Miss Julia Stanaland, bride elect of June. Miss Stanaland was presented a white carnation cor sage and a silver tray by the hostesses. Miss Mary Todd Satter field, bride-elect, was remembered with a corsage and silver jelly dish. Mrs. L. R. Price, mother of Miss Stanaland, poured lime ice, also cheese straws, chicken salad bis cuits, sweet nut balls, mints and nuts were served. The table was covered with a white linen cut work cloth and centered with a centerpiece of pink snapdragons and white mums in a silver bowl. Spring flowers were used through out the home. Fifty guests enjoyed the morn ing party. miss Mary Todd Satterfield, bride-elect of June, was honored at a bridge party and miscellan eous shower in the home of Mrs. Marvin Todd Thursday night. Miss Satterfield was presented an orchid corsage. The home was decorated with roses throughout. Those playing were Miss Satter field, her mother, Mrs. B. C. Sat- ! terfield, Mrs. Jasper Thomas, Mrs.! Kelly Hunter, Mrs. James Buch anan, Mrs. Paul Todd, Mrs. Leslie Alligood, Mrs. Clarence Todd, Mrs. J. J. Henderson, Sr., Mrs. J. J. Henderson, Jr., Mrs. Robert Willi ford and Mrs. J. T. Allen. After three progressions Mrs. Jasper Thomas was presented high score and Mrs. Clarence Todd, sec ond high, Mrs. Williford, low. Mrs. Thomas also received floating prize. Ice cream and cake wer_> served during the social hour. • The grade mothers and hus bands, Mr. and Mrs. William Hes ter, Mr. and Mrs. George Gravitt, Mr. and Mrs. Furney Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Whitley, Mr. and Mrs. Elgie Painter, Mt. and Mrs. A. B. Knott, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Murphy, Mrs. James Honeycutt, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Nowell, and M'rs. Hayes, entertained the 1963 sen iors and mascots last Wednesday night, April 24, at “The King of the Sea." Seafood and chicken dinner were served to the mem bers of the class. Mrs. L. C. Murphy, who is chair man of the grade mothers, held games and contests and gave a skit, “What’s in a Name.” Mr. and M'rs. John Mattox were also guests, Mr. Mattox made pic tures of the party. WILLIAM (BILL) FULLER The funeral for William (Bill) Fuller, 58, who died Monday at his home at Route 1, Wendell was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cen tral Baptist Church of which he was a member. The Rev. Herbert Maynard of ficiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, the former Gertie Cooke; one son, Wil liam (Bill) Ray Fuller of Rt. 1, Wendell, a sister, Mrs. Winnie M Moore, of Fayetteville; three brothers, Walter of Zebulon, Glenn of Raleigh and Melvin of Durham. • Mrs. Joe High was hostess to a beach party at her cottage at Top sail Beach last weekend. Guests were Mrs. Silas Todd, Mrs. Will Stott, Mrs. Ailene Love lace, Mrs. Marsh Knott, Mts. Paul Richardson, Mrs. Lee Mattox and Miss Gladys Baker of Zebulon. All these Wendell teachers reported \ wonderful weekend. Mrs. H. K. Baker Mrs. Baker Leader In Demonstration Club Mrs. .H. K. Baker presided at the 15th District Federation meet ing of the Home Demonstration Clubs held in Louisburg on April 17. Mrs. Baker is chairman of the district. Her tenure of office is one year and will expire Decem ber 31. She will be succeeded by Mrs. C. M. Haithcock of Warren County. The district is composed of Vance, Warren, Granville and Franklin Counties. Approximately 300 Home Demonstration members attended the meeting. Mrs. Baker is the former Ruth Scarborough. Her husband is a prominent farmer on Rt. 3, Zebu Ion, where the family resides. They are the parents of two teenage daughters, Joan, 17, and Betsy, 13, students at Wakelon School. Prior to becoming chairman of ; the district, Mrs. Baker was pres ident of the Franklin County club eight years ago. She represented the district at the national meeting held in Lexington, Ky., in Au gust. She is also a member of the State executive committee and will represent the district at Home makers Week at N. C. State Col lege in June. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Strickland, Jimmy, is one of the class’s mascots. The Lions Club, where the oc casion was held, was decorated in an Easter motif. The tables were decorated with arrangements of yellow mums and gladioli flanked with lighted yellow tapers. The menu consisted of pineapple juice cocktail, baked ham, string beans, potato salad, cranberry sauce, lemon jello topped with swirls of whipped cream, and iced tea. Besides the 64 seniors, others present were Demetra Pettry and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pettry. Demetra is the other mas cot. The class sponsors were al so present.
